Because that's the common narrative for both sides. Anyone who isn't well informed has the idea that Hitler was a racist white guy who hated non-whites. It's actively portrayed in the most influential media (hollywood and american TV) like this.

White Nationalism doesn't take National Socialist ideology directly from its sources, but through the filter of White Nationalists themselves mostly adopting the Nazi arguments of there existing an ideological enemy who are some convergence of Judaism, liberalism, Marxism, etc.
