Does anyone still hold any regard to his previous career as a socialist?
>>
>>1823017
It wasn't really that he lost the socialist values of his youth, at least from my understanding, he just got caught up in the intellectual movements of his time.

Whats sadder is how he died. He just wanted to retire after his arrest, but Hitler threatened to start massacring people if he didn't play the role of his bitch, then his own people, the ones he was protecting, shot him dead for being Hitler's bitch.

It might have been taken down. I remember some of his wiki pages getting edited to take away anything that would make him seem like a decent person.

The book "Mussolini: The Last 600 Days of Il Duce" has all the information I'm referencing if you're really willing to slog through it. The information I'm talking about should be near the end.

Only information I can see on wikipedia anymore is:
"After yielding to pressures from Hitler and the remaining loyal fascists who formed the government of the Republic of Salò, Mussolini helped orchestrate a series of executions of some of the fascist leaders who had betrayed him at the last meeting of the Fascist Grand Council"
A few years ago (it's been a while since I was into that period) it would have specifically said that those pressures where threats from Hitler that he would destroy 3 major Italian cities if Mussolini didn't comply to his orders (can't remember the specific cities), but that's been removed since then. My bad, I'd forgotten what a shitty source Wikipedia is.

Socialism isn't "the government doing stuff." Socialism is worker control of industry.

Instead of mines and factories being owned by an individual capitalist or group of shareholders, the workers co-own these means of production. This causes wages to rise, as the rentier class no longer skims their wages to make a profit.

>>
>>1824233
I can understand politically ignorant people thinking social democracy is socialism because it's a meme in the US, but how can some who had actual experience in far-left politics call himself a socialist when his beliefs have nothing to do with socialism?
>>
>>1824334
Bernie might personally be a socialist, but his policies are not socialism.

Socialism is when industry is collectively held by the workers, instead of individual members or groups of the ruling class.

Across the Cold War, socialist parties in Europe began advocating for a "more ethical capitalism" to prevent themselves from being made illegal. This philosophy, now called social democracy, allows capitalists to exploit workers but uses statistics tools like heavy taxation and regulations to improve the lives of these workers.

Bernie Sanders follows this trend.
>>
>>1824334
Bernie has wanted to be a special snowflake his entire career. Vermont, along with NYC and the Northwest, are the only places in the US where actual socialists and communists are a significant voting block.

Calling yourself a socialist while advocating social democracy is a good way to gain the support of all types of left-wing voters.

Father killed, grows intense hatred for the powers that be that killed him for disent, grows to be the most powerful populist writer of Russia and East Europe, writing endless correspondence, and avenges the death of his father with the October Revolution. He believed what he did was right, just as the American Revolution gave "freedom" to all, so to was the USSR, which splintered. He died witnessing the unfortunate path his dreams have may have been for nothing for a kind of state he didn't want from the beginning, and had to compromise.

>he was a fascist
And that's bad because...?
>who allied himself with Hitler
Only after all other possibilities were exhausted and GB decided to be a bunch of Kraut-loving cucks.
>saw what Hitler was doing and jumped on the Axis train
As I said, all attempts of cooperating with GB and France in maintaining Versailles and checking Germany have failed. He was convinced Germany would manage to win (owing in no small part to the reluctance of GB and Frace to intervene in pretty much anything Germany did), and, in that future, the only way for Italy to survive would be cooperation. He hated Hitler (even more after Dollfuss's assassination) and considered him dangerous.
>In the end he was just some asshole who allied with Hitler
In private life, he was an asshole. But his life and work are supremely interesting, and he sincerely tried to improve Italy (see his infrastructure projects, attempts to root out the mafia etc.). Also, his ideology is top-tier.

I'm having a hate boner against fascism because it represses people. How is that a good idea? It's not. No progress has ever come from prohibiting dialogue between differing ideas. Yes, it's from a liberal perspective. People on this board seen to forget that Ideology can be a worthy cause in itself, and an ideology that suppresses freedom of expression and ideas is clearly not a worthy cause for a variety of reasons. Even Oswald Mosley admitted that fascism was a mistake.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cheka
Depending on Cheka committees in various cities, the methods included:[2] being skinned alive, scalped, "crowned" with barbed wire, impaled, crucified, hanged, stoned to death, tied to planks and pushed slowly into furnaces or tanks of boiling water,[2] or rolled around naked in internally nail-studded barrels. Chekists reportedly poured water on naked prisoners in the winter-bound streets until they became living ice statues. Others reportedly beheaded their victims by twisting their necks until their heads could be torn off. The Chinese Cheka detachments stationed in Kiev reportedly would attach an iron tube to the torso of a bound victim and insert a rat in the tube closed off with wire netting, while the tube was held over a flame until the rat began gnawing through the victim's guts in an effort to escape.[2] Anton Denikin's investigation discovered corpses whose lungs, throats, and mouths had been packed with earth.[2][34]

>No progress has ever come from prohibiting dialogue between differing ideas.

Are you fucking kidding me? Tons of progress has. Just imagine if the USA/FBI wasn't so hard-handed on Communists and allowed a revolution to take place. Would have been a massive leap backwards.

Well India got independence in the end. Too bad that Bastard Nehru took the PM position instead of Patel who Congress actually wanted. Gandhi fucked up.
