If a map of the Mediterranean this accurate was possible to make in the 1300s, why are other maps made up to the early 1700s much less accurate even of the same area?
>why are other maps made up to the early 1700s much less accurate even of the same area?
Sounds like a strawman to me.

Well if one European cartographer mastered the technique in the middle ages why didn't it spread to every European cartographer by a few hundred years later?
Because the "Christian Dark Ages" meme is bullshit.

The advancement of Cartography was like the beginning of the internet revolution. As soon as it started advancing people would leave locations out or create errors purposely. Just like the internet, governments white washed a whole lot of their shit. Some created conspiracy theories to hide their tracks. Thats all. People had to know who to get their maps from. This is why you see many places in east and west europe sharing names. Diversion tactic.
