I would say a kind of status quo bias. Add to it ingroup vs outgroup stuff.

But it is certainly true that some Western people are highly critical of Western culture and some of them romantizise other cultures, especially common is romantising North-American Indians.

The closest thing "the west" does is abortion, but a lot of nonviolent but extremely dissolute practices drag our sub-civilisation down.

I don't know if /his/ frequents /pol/ all that much (or gives thought to political theory), but the "far-right" of all types believes western society from a certain point in time is not "the" western society of the "classic" variety (wherever they choose to date that).
I would certainly draw a distinction between "western civilisation" pre and post- French Revolution, and pre-Reformation too.

Because Europe is about 2000+ years removed from human sacrifices, so seeing such brutal ones is kinda jarring.

In fact, most of the world is that much removed from cutting out people's hearts to appease the sun and rain gods.

are we comparing 2000s era western civilizations with ancient mesoamerican? if so, that doesnt make much sense. im sure if we looked hard enough we'd fine examples of every regions civilizations committing acts similar to the aztecs, just for barely different reasons
