Did he dindu nuffin /his/?
personally believe he was a good boy and the terror was a necessary evil, but curious to know what others think about him and the terror in general
>>
>>1794630
Performed a necessary evil, his only fault wasn't going far enough
>>
>>1794704
virtuous citoyen detected
>>
>>1794630
The FreRev totalled about 40-55k deaths. Not really an evil compared to what happens today.
>>
>>1794630

Necessary for what?
Retarded ideals like liberte egalite fraternite?

Not under capitalism maybe. Socialism is a different story.

Louis XVI was an ill equipped but nonetheless legitimate ruler with bad taste in women, which may not even have been his fault, all things considered. There was nothing 'necessary' about the Terror, and the Revolution was founded on a lie, i.e. that because one monarch presided over a state deep in debt and poverty, all monarchs must be illegitimate.

>Louis XVI was an ill equipped but nonetheless legitimate ruler
But how is that possible? No monarch is legitimate

>Your head

He's saying that because humans are inherently unequal the government (or just someone) must enforce their arbitrary procrustean views upon the populace. This inhibits freedom.

Recently read fouche's biography by Stefan Zweig.

Reading it, it seemed that Robespierre wasn't the one responsible for the terror. In fact he was among the moderate jacobins who put an end to the excesses of mobs massacring priests and put people responsible for these massacres on trial.

He only seemed to be blamed for the terror because he was the last jacobin and was followed by moderates who assiociated him with the terrorism.

Can anyone who knows more about the period enlighten elaborate, if this is right/wrong

He wanted power or rather Macht in german(slightly different because the root of the word is mach which is also used in Machen or to make), basically he was based as an individual.
>>
>>1795690
But the revolution wasn't based on a that, it was based on Ludvig being a bad monarch that let himself get fucked in the ass by the church and noblemen.
The monarchy only got dissmantled once he tried to run to the enemy for help, even then there only being one vote in favor over agAinst.
>>
>>1795690
Every monarch is a rebel and an usurper against the only legitimate sovereign body, the people.

>>1794630
Killing Danton and Desmoulin was a mistake, as well as not killing Fouché.
He was too obsessed with foreign aristocratic conspiracies to notice that simple corruption was the biggest problem the republic faced.
Also he was too anti-antitheist.

>>1795726
I don't know much more, but I often read that most of the blame he recieved came from people who wanted to shift the blame away from themselves like Fouché and from people who wanted to justify their coup against him.

>The monarchy only got dissmantled once he tried to run to the enemy for help, even then there only being one vote in favor over agAinst.
The one vote difference was about the death penalty.
The abolition of the monarchy was decided with an unanimous acclamation.

Macht = Might

he wanted to be mighty.

He dindu nuffin

Some facts:
>Robespierre was never "dictator" or anything like that, he was one of twelve members of the Committee of Public Safety
>only 18-30k people died in the Terror
>a majority of those were arrested while engaged in armed insurrection against the state
>over 70% of the executions took place in a handful of departments were rebellion was most widespread, a majority of departments actually saw no executions at all during the Terror
>there was no "class war": while nobility and clergy were relatively overrepresented among those executed, they were still a minority of those killed
>the powers invading France, who the royalists were helping, would have done worse: they had promised to subject the entire city of Paris to a military execution
>in fact, they did do worse in suppressing rebellions under their rule: the British executed 20k people after the United Irishmen rebellion in just a few months compared to the 18-30k killed in the whole year of the Terror, and the Russians killed 30k people in Warsaw in a single day suppressing the Polish revolt of 1795
>the rebels in the Vendee and elsewhere were just as brutal as the republicans

Democratically-elected governments (the first government elected by universal manhood suffrage in modern history, in fact) have a right to suppress rebellions by traitors assisting foreign invaders. People try and pretend the Terror was akin to Nazi Germany or Stalinist Russia, but really it was more like the Spanish Civil War

he killed Antoine Lavoisier, considered to be the Father of Chemistry. Remember this the next time atheist meme about 'muh religion'. It's the religion of the state that killed the father of modern chemistry.

Also remember when edgy atheists meme 'muh medieval monk wrote a prayer over some faded Archimedes calculus' that it was the Romans who literally stabbed and killed Archimedes during the siege of Syracuse. The State strikes again.

Secularism is code for relativism, don't forget that.

Robespierre was the Pope of the state, and the state killed the most people throughout history. Pick up a book will ya?

He tried to get Brissot arrested during the September massacres, knowing that Brissot would likely end up dead. He knew exactly what he was trying to do.
