Is religion unique to humans?
Are there any animals that portray any traditions or practices that cannot be trivialized to a mechanical purpose?

Elephants and chimpanzees have some forms of proto religion, I think. I forget what the evidence was for chimpanzees, but elephants have funeral rituals.

Don't orcas have some form of culture?
>>1790251
Oh yeah, and the proto-religion for chimps was them stacking rocks in a hollowed out tree and repeatedly banging on it for no particular reason.

They pass novel, learned information down generations, which could be considered a form of culture. But OP specified things that couldn't be reduced to a mechanical purpose, and as far as I know they mostly do pass on useful information like novel hunting techniques. I could be completely wrong about that though.
Whale sing.
Roosters crow
Birds sing
