How would western Sub Saharan Africa have developed if America had never been discovered?

That's a pretty big if that we can never be certain of. But here's some thoughts just for fun.

It's my understanding that Sub Saharan Africa was relatively sparsely populated at the time of early colonialism, while Europe was having a population boom. Without the Americas to expand to, Africa might've been flooded with many more Europeans than it was. Instead of having slavery as it was in the US, the Spanish may have implemented a sort of cast system in Africa like they did in some parts of the Americas irl.

Since Africa would be built up for Europeans to live in instead of just for resource extraction, it may have ended up being much more developed up until the Cold War. The most likely unpopular caste system may lead to big Communist movements on the continent and wars. Today much of Africa might still be more developed than it is irl, and would probably be more diverse with lots more whites and mixed race people.

There's no telling the cold war and communism would have even occured. Hell for all we know the Ottomans would've been in control of the Vatican in this scenario. There really is no telling what would of happened and it gets more speculative the further in history we go.
>>
Probably somewhat better without triangle trade.

> Africa might've been flooded with many more Europeans
There are still many natural factors that prevent it like in our time lane, like malaria.
>>
>>1770711
They'd still implement slavery though actually.
>>

Malaria, People not wanting to go to some podunk location where eventually once they "make it safe" they'd get thrown under the bus or are fodder, no incentives making going to some tropical jungle worth it, lack of knowledge of the land, lack of confidence in the expeditions, many business ventures being unprofitable (many companies could barely break even for various reasons) or plain suicidal.

Also other diseases alongside Malaria and diseases flow from Africa and into it devastating the world and the continent.

1890s African rinderpest epizootic is one example of the latter and the virus we all know and love HIV is an example of the former.

Largely the same as OTL but without the destabilizing effects of the slave trade

The population boom of corn wouldn't happen

If you can find a copy of the article "Slavery and its Transformation in the Kingdom of Kongo: 1491–1800", it'll give you an idea of just how utterly fucked their whole society became after the 17th century due to the massive growth of the Atlantic trade.

I'll paste the conclusion from it:
>From the first contacts with the Portuguese in 1483 to the period of the civil war and anarchy (after 1665), Kongo was a supplier of slaves to the Atlantic market and also had a population of slaves. Kongo was also a country that had rules that regulated the trade and initially limited the export of freeborn Kongos to the Atlantic market. For much of the sixteenth century, when Kongo was a strong state, rulers were able to pursue strategies that allowed Kongo to export, for the Atlantic, war captives or slaves bought outside of Kongo, to pay for its foreign imports and the diplomatic and cultural ties with Europeans. Kongo officials not only sold foreign-born slaves to the Portuguese but also allowed the Portuguese to use Kongo as a base for trading in foreign-born slaves. Moreover, Kongo elites employed both foreign-born and Kongo-born slaves in a variety of economic activities and also used them as soldiers.
>The protection from enslavement that freeborn Kongos enjoyed dissipated during the course of the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as foreign wars declined and internal strife led competing factions to enslave partisans of rivals. Under these conditions, Kongo could not simultaneously be a major supplier of foreign slaves, maintain a social order based on slavery, and still protect freeborn Kongos from enslavement. Thus the distinctions between foreign-born slaves and freeborn Kongos disappeared. Ultimately every Kongo was a potential slave.

The full article goes into far more detail about how bad it got, with constant anarchy and literally everyone living in constant fear of being enslaved by anyone else, even family members.

Blacks would have been genocided once Europe ran out of space and resources.
>>
>>1771021
How?

There's no great silver deposits and indian gold was more abundant

Not to mention Europeans died en masse from African diseases

Quinine is an American plant so Europeans would never survive there to begin with
>>
>>1770568
It would have been the same.
Europeans couldn't colonize it any earlier because of factors like disease, climate etc.
Triangle trade wouldn't have mattered. They would just remain slaves in their own territory, maybe it would be more populous, but who knows. Disease could do the work and cut them down to about the same numbers.
>>
>Castille focuses on conquering Morroco and North Africa after 1492
>Portugese start settlements in South Africa after 1500
>later on when other Europeans join in, South Africa becomes most important part in colonial scramble, since who controls it, controls Indochina-Europe trade
