How do atheists cope with the fact that their lives are worthless?

How did theists cope with the fact that their entire life means nothing in presence of all might God of incomprehensible nature that can just rewrite is in a second by a whim?

How exactly does theism give ones life any worth?
Living a life which is just a series of tests to prove that you should be ascending to heaven seems like a pretty worthless life aswell.

Atheist or not, you should have a greater purpose to your life than life itself m8, does not mean that it should be a universal one.

It's inherently worthless, but I give it worth. Just like how we give these inherently meaningless scribbles called words meaning. It's a very simple concept, why does it need repeating.

Your life is everything to yourself, therefor its the opposite of worthless.

This being said, how can anybody buy into heaven and hell when the concepts are so childish? It's the spiritual equivalent of telling a child that if he's good, he gets a cookie, but if he's bad, he gets a spanking. It's so primitive and one-dimensional, I don't know how anyone can believe in it and not feel like a complete stooge.

Obviously atheists don't consider their lives "worthless" and aren't nihilist, etc. So why do Christmas always ask stuff like this? Is believing in the ancient desert storm god the only thing holding you together?
