The Germans focused on submarine warfare simply because they could not take on the Royal Navy in WW1 and WW2. It was this fact that made them so innovative in both wars. There's a great quote at the start of the documentary The Great War with a German Admiral saying a War with the Royal Navy would last 7 days I'm tried to source it.

You know rightly why he was so critical of Hitler... so the film could get made but it is totally within Character he's a crotchety old sea Captain in a miserable environment and a horrendously high mortality job (although not an undesirable one, they were paid well and had good food guaranteed, recruitment was surprisingly fine).

The Kriegsmarine even though it held out even after surrender wasn't very politically Nazi. Hitler complained repeatedly that he has a Nazi SS, A prussian Army and a Jewish Kriegsmarine... another quote I'm lazily failing to source but they did have lots of Jewish personnel compared to the other services. That at a massive stretch could be relevant to the thread.

More likely is that sailors are nutters and submariners notoriously doubly so. It's completely within stereotype for them to hate the government and literally everything else that isn't old Naval stories and the weather report.

If you watch any German ww2 movie, you never see a single hitlerite but that's bullshit, about 50% of the people after the war just hated him cause he lost; Hannah reitsch said as much. The reich enjoyed popular support for most of its existence.

The German submarine arm had a higher casualty rate than the Japanese kamikaze arm, and that is still true if you only count Kamikazes that actually took off to attack their objective

The real answer is that you could get a pro german soldier in WW2 movie.

However most germans themselves were very protective and proud of their country...but they werent necessarily nazis.

The last free election before hitler's rise he got 43% of the vote. A commanding majority in their system but this was literally a few days AFTER a communist set the Bundestag on fire. During most of the 20s the party didnt even qualify for the Reichstag and usually had around 20% of the vote.

There were of course other conservative elements they worked with but those werent nazis.
