Would have the House of Lancaster be more everlasting if Henry V did not decide to rule France?
>>
Silly question, England owned France and therefore he could not have chosen to pass ruling France as he already did by virtue of being King of England.

Henry's claim to the throne of England was based on females not being allowed to inherit. The original English claim to France was based on females being allowed to inherit. Edward III was rightful king of France but Henry was not. Besides, Henry didn't even want to be king of France, he just wanted the duchy of Normandy in full sovereignty

England was ruled by French nobles, but these nobles had never been part of the French royal family
They owned big territories in France (their original territories) alongside their oversea colony England, but it didnt give them a claim on the French throne in any way
>>
Why did the English throne claim to be the rightful heir to the french one? I get how they got their claims on antiquaine and Maine but how did that translate to full control of france?

Killing Ned Stark was a mistake

Edward III's mom was Isabella, a French Princess. The law was changed in her day so that it explicitly said that women would not be able to inherit the throne of the Capets (France). The last Capet was Charles IV, and when he died Isabella decided that instead of the throne being hers, it should be Edward's, since he was the closest surviving heir of the Capets being her son. However that law made it clear that women had no right to the crown, and that a right needs to be had by someone so that someone could confer that right onto someone else.

The family that took the French throne instead still had a pretty shaky claim, the dude being the grandson of the king who died fifty years before.

This is all made more complicated in either direction you go, since there was more than the pure dynastic conflict at play, but this is the official story for the war.

If you want more, you need to understand that the Royal House of England at the time, the Plantagenets, were originally from the Anjou region of France, having lineage back to a semi-mythical Bandit in the days of Charlemagne and then also being related to a Count who had a child with a demon and then burnt her alive. The Plantagenets were a rowdy sort who liked to bully the French king like all the other French noblemen, and they also married a bit with the Normans, who when they conquered England ran short of heirs after Henry I died, though he declared his daughter Matilda to be his heir, Stephen took the throne instead and turned the country over to anarchy. The lords had no rights, and minor barons and bandits ravaged the country side while Stephen and his awful son hid in the castle.

Matilda was married to a Count of Anjou named Geoffrey, who also managed to wrest hold of Normandy from the French king as well as control a good part of Tour. Geoffrey and Matilda's son was Henry, who when he got his lands went to claim his birthright the crown of England. (to be continued)

Henry won the war against Stephen, generally having the support of the English Nobility and Peasantry, and thus he was Henry II. Henry II reaffirmed the laws of Edward the Confessor and Alfred the great while codifying new laws as well. He took England and gave it actual legal administration to make it a country more sophisticated than France was legally at the time. Henry did all of this while also keeping a hold on his lands in France, Normandy and Anjou, while adding even more to the possessions of the Plantagenets by marrying Eleanor of Aquitaine, who controlled was was basically the southwestern quarter of France. Pic shows the empire that Henry II built. It looks quite nice, doesn't it? Well it wouldn't last long unfortunately. The later years of Henry's reign was marked by a civil war against his son Henry, who tried to declare himself King against his father and eventually died. Once Henry II died his other son, Richard, became King of England and the Angevin domain.

Now there's a lot of stuff nowadays hating on Richard for not really being an English king, and really he was pretty much a French Knight who had a crown, but Richard understood that as much as anybody and was wise enough to put good men in charge of England while he was off fighting (protecting his property in France against Phillip, the new French King as well as eventually participating in the great Third Crusade.)

When Richard died tragedy struck the Empire, because Richard did not have a son, which meant that John, the youngest unloved child, almost like the Jeb Bush of the Plantagenets (but worse), inherited. There are a few John apologists on /his/, do not believe their lies. If any Plantagenet king committed many crimes, it was him. He was militarily incompetent, running away from victories and charging into defeats, and his incompetence lead to the loss of most if not all of the English territories in France to the strong Phillip.

That is all.
