How did cavemen find their way back to their cave after a successful hunting session? It's pretty easy to get lost in the wilderness. Or did everyone go hunting together and find a place to settle after they killed an animal? I guess this kind of makes sense but then again having women and children in tow as you were hunting down a something or other doesn't really seem practical.
So how did it work?

Actually getting lost in wilderness is no different that getting lost in a city youre new to. Someone who is native to that city wouldnt get lost so easily.
they obviously knew their surroundings and could navigate by looking at the sky if they had to
They had bags full of bread crumbs they would leave in a trail as they went.

Good look trying to get lost.
Pic related is what Europe looked like for much of the last Glacial period.
