The two things I do give them credit for. Irish mercenaries were sought all over the world, and they did push the vikings shit in extremely hard, although it was at their most unified time-when Ireland was only technically divided in two between a higher and lesser king.

Rebellions were constant and quite brutal, Based Hugh O'Neill gave the English a pretty hard time, as did Michael Collins.
The 1916 rebellion was a military disaster overall but they did manage to hold out long enough to gain their legitimacy and that likely helped in the long run.

Irish writers have also always been great.
