Why spend money and resources keeping this guy on an island instead

Why spend money and resources keeping this guy on an island instead of just executing him for whatever contrived reason? It doesn't make sense, especially considering the first attempt at the island exile thing was a failure.
>>
He wasn't going to escape from St.Helena, that shit is in the middle of nowhere
>>
>>1685894
they werent savage barbarians

and theres a fuckton list and line of people to die ahead of him at any stage in the game
>>
>>1685894

You already make this same thread.
>>
>>1685908
oh I didn't think it posted last time, it's too late to delete it now though so we're going to have this thread again
>>
But anon, they did kill him

>implying he actually died of stomach cancer
>>
>>1685894
You can't just execute monarchs, you stupid peasant.
>>
>>1685902
>they werent savage barbarians
you know what they did in Spain?
>>
>>1686124
It would actually have been a bigger blow to Republicanism if they were less merciful with him and didn't treat him like they would a monarch (because he wasn't a real one).
>>
>>1686124
You can execute usurpers. He had no divine right.
>>
the British empire had honour and wouldn't merely execute a fellow European monarch it was also a show of power to have the great napoleon locked away in the kings pocket also any doctor at the island would have known he was close to death considering we can tell from a few paintings
>>
>>1686167
>a fellow European monarch
There's nothing that suggests the monarchs of Europe saw him as an equal or legitimate ruler.
>>
>>1686146
>>1686144
Perhaps the transition from divine monarchies and such to constitutional monarchies led leaders to see the rights of leaders in general more broadly. That is to say, you are better than the filthy peasants simply for being a leader rather than being born part of a royal bloodline.
>>
>>1685894
Even though he was seen as an usurper by his enemies, he was still a monarch at the end of the day
Back then, a war didnt end with the defeated leader getting executed, and european monarchs didnt want to set this precedent

Also it'd be quite unfair, Napoleon had conquered Prussia and Austria several times yet he never even deposed their monarchs let alone execute them
>>
It's pretty simple, they just didn't want to make a martyr of him.

>>1685902
>they werent savage barbarians
They were exactly that, you Anglo apologist.

>>1686122
Also this.

>Let's keep him in a humid hellhole in the middle of nowhere

>>1686124
Heh.

>>1686146
>Napoleon was a usurper

>>1686167
Neither the British nor the Austrians thought of Napoleon as an equal. Hell, even his own father in law thought of him as a lesser man.

>>1686295
>Even though he was seen as an usurper by his enemies, he was still a monarch at the end of the day

>Also it'd be quite unfair, Napoleon had conquered Prussia and Austria several times yet he never even deposed their monarchs let alone execute them

And also this. Napoleon was a class act.
>>
>>1686177
the system of the time would have forced the brittish to see him as a equal even through we hate the bloody French especially napolion
>>
>>1685901
those still loyal could have easily taken the island and sprang him if they could coordinate themselfs
>>
>>1686523
There would be nowhere for him to go. Maybe America but he would probably be just as depressed living disgraced and defeated in America as he was on St. Helena.
>>
First time i dont see a more-or-less convincing response from anyone on /his/
>>
>>1686146
The divine right of kings just means that your father or grandfather was a usurper.
>>
You can't rub his face in his defeat if he's dead. That's definitely worth the cost of keeping him alive.
