I think alot of the problem in WW2 Germany was the fact that Hitler truly was the head of the snake. When he stopped trusting his generals and fell into mental decay Germany decayed with him. You've all watched that one scene from Downfall.
If the Nazi Party was capable of recognizing that it needed a change of leadership, and facilitating that change, Germany might not have collapsed under Russian boots.

And if Rommel has moon men using their UFOs to bring his supplies to Suez, that might have happened. In real life, he had all the problems of trying to project about 6 divisions, most of them Italian, through the desert on fucking trucks through air contested terrain.

The Kriegsmarine can't get into the Mediterranean, unless they want to run through the Royal Navy (about 5 times their size in 1941) and through a whole patch of mines in and around Gibraltar, which would free up the RN to mass their battleships in the Med now that they don't have to worry about them in the Atlantic.

To be fair Stalin believed Hitler was serious about the Molotov-Ribbentrop pact.

A part of me wants to try Germany in HOI4 and just build a German Maginot line against the Russians and see if they attack.

The best strategy is always attack first, but the Soviets are pushovers in HOI4 unless run by a player.

How? Weather did not really permit an earlier invasion. Assuming it did, instead of isolated recon elements 20-50 km from Moscow, you have somewhat more sizeable forces 20-50 km from Moscow. You still have supply lines that can barely support you, and you face a ring of heavy defenses and a city that is larger than Stalingrand and will presumably be defended even more. How does that win you the war.
