That's probably the median height for men during those time periods, or close to it. So yes, it can be a coincidence.

This can't be right

Alexander was supposed to be a manlet even for his own time. An anecdote from Plutarch mentions that Darius' mother confused Haephestion for Alexander because he is actually physically imposing

Caesar was supposed to be rather tall for a Roman

Ghengis Khan was also supposed to be a bigger man who could kick the shit outta people

persian royals were taller than greeks, she probably just picked the taller manlet
>Caesar was supposed to be rather tall for a Roman
he was of tall stature which could mean that he had good posture/ appeared taller/ wore lifts like augustus - suetonius implies that 5' 6" was a respectable height
>Ghengis Khan was also supposed to be a bigger man who could kick the shit outta people
what's your source

There's no records of Genghis Khan's stature during his lifetime.

No I'm saying that posting a wiki that's edited by anonymous people doesn't count as a good source

I mean c'mon, the website even posts his weight in pounds.

Also, both his height and weight HAVE NO SOURCE.

Those stats are probably made up.
>>
>>1622360
it is made with information taken from the show which is made with the help of actual historical experts

Caesars commentaries claim that the people of Gaul were "giants" in comparison to his army. It might be just general exaggeration to make your own accomplishments sound more amazing but if true it implies that 5 7 was not average.
>>
>>1622418
I should note that the people of gaul were about 5 8.
>>
>>1622418
other sources state the celts were taller than the romans and other Mediterraneans

IIRC polybius states the massagatae were pretty tall

>>1622414
epic trololo
>>
>>1622364

Actual historical experts cite primary sources to validate statements if they want to be taken seriously. The value of historical experts, furthermore, is on their analysis, not the mere statement of facts, where primary sources take priority. An "expert" saying someone is 5'7 is useless if they don't say how they came to that conclusion.

Not to mention
>historical """"""""experts""""""""""
>>
>>1622425
what's your primary source for this
>>

I'm saying your shitty wikisource is far from conclusive, but if you want a primary source on Caesar's height the literal only thing I know if is Suetonius' description of him, which is "tall." Googling it the 5'7 stat just seems to be regurgitated between idiots not actually proving a primary source, just citing other websites that don't cite one.

And Suetonius never met him, so anything on Caesar's height is probably a guess at best.

>"With what hands," or "with what strength did they, especially [as they were] men of such very small stature" (for our shortness of stature, in comparison with the great size of their bodies, is generally a subject of much contempt to the men of Gaul),
he says "our shortness" so he obviously wasn't taller than the average gaul, so 5' 7" seems fair
>>
Tamerlane the Great - 4'2"
>>
>>1622477
tamerlane was not 4' 2"

next you'll say atilla was a dwarf
>>
>>1622479
http://deadliestwarrior.wikia.com/wiki/Attila_the_Hun

It's true though

he was like 4 foot
>>
>>1622474

I'm not saying the number arrived at was wrong, I'm saying the burden of proving it goes further than citing the deadliest warrior wiki. If you're going to cite an "expert" you should at least cite one that tells you how they came to that conclusion either through a citation or explaining it in the text. A comparative analysis with the Gallic wars and average heights in Gaul is far more legitimate.

Even then, 5'7 is a ballpark.

I always hear this but then its just arguing from personal credulity in a sort of high-school history crash course attempt at an essay on Roman historians....
Why do people say this if it has no credence?

The (British) Victorians noted how short other peoples of Europe were, they put it down to the greater prosperity of Britain, that allowed even the poor to eat meat every day.
