65 French Legionnaires v 3000 Mexicans
A small infantry patrol of 64 men led by Captain Danjou is attacked by a numerically superior force of 3000 Mexicans. The Legionaries manage to fight their way to a Hacienda and end up holding the Mexicans off for over 10 hours as a delay action to cover the convoy. After most of the Legionaries are dead their Captain is shot dead by a sniper. Once only five men remained and were exhausted of ammunition they launched a bayonet charge, 2 were killed outright and another jumped in they way of a hail of bullets to try save their Lieutenant, Maudet. The two remaining Legionaries are forced to the ground and ordered to surrender as of which one of them, Corporal Philippe Maine responded, "We will surrender if you leave us our weapons and our equipment. You also have to promise to take care of our wounded lieutenant."after the soldiers were brought to the leader of the Mexicans, Milian he said "Is this all of them? Is this all of the men who are left?" Then, in amazement, he exclaimed, "These are not men! They are demons!"
The Battle itself is regarded as a strategic victory for the French because they successfully held of the Mexicans from reaching the convoy.

650 British fighting men - soldiers and officers from the 1st Battalion, the Gloucestershire Regiment - were deployed on the most important crossing on the Imjin River to block the traditional invasion route to Seoul.

The enemy came at around midnight on April 22, 1951, a day earlier than the Glosters had expected. The Chinese had marched 17 miles to the river's edge and, rather than stop, simply continued across the river.
As appalled British patrols reported "huge forces" advancing on them, it became clear that China had sent an entire division - 10,000 men - to smash the isolated Glosters aside

On Sunday the 22nd, as men prepared for a major battle, Protestant and Catholic padres of the whole British brigade preached to packed congregations. At midnight, the main body of the Chinese division, part of the Sixty Third Army, arrived at the ford and poured in their thousands across the river.

The defenders unleashed a hail of small arms fire, grenades and mortars to murderous effect. But still the attackers came and in ever greater numbers. By daylight on Monday, the scene was "grim".

On Tuesday afternoon, an American, Maj-Gen Robert H Soule, asked the British brigadier, Thomas Brodie: "How are the Glosters doing?" The brigadier, schooled in British understatement, replied: "A bit sticky, things are pretty sticky down there." To American ears, this did not sound too desperate.

Only 40 men escaped. Six more Glosters would have made it, but were gunned down by American tanks who took their muddy, ragged figures for Chinese.
