Mongol culture is very different from what we'd recognize as "civilized" in the west, and in some ways is closer to tribal societies, but it does have its own tradition and a certain way of life in which its warriors would be brought up. They would be educated in everything necessary for survival in the harsh climate of the steppes and the perpetual clash of peoples of the middle east, as well as inherit a culture that was both singular (tengrism, throat singing, horse riding) and eclectic from all the peoples they brought under their banner and mingled with (they'll adopt ideas from buddhism to islam). That being said, they were mostly fucking ruthless and efficient, and you can certainly attribute that to what you could call "formal" training in a certain way of war.
