Is ancient archery a meme?

Did archers of the old use these techniques in warfare or are these really just for show?

Is Lars Andersen a hack?

>even though there are peoples all around the world who don't follow these rules

I think you are an idiot for watching that whole video.
>>
>>1598493
I remember him get btfo on some reddit thread when the video first came out, on /r/askhistorians or /r/badhistory I think
>>
Lars Anderson is considered nothing but a cool Trick Archer in most Archery clubs. Nothing wrong with that, but don't give me that rediscovered history bullshit. Archery is and was a diverse sport with multiple methods of drawing, holding, and shooting. No one method encompasses everything. And the claim that quivers were never ever used is just false.
>>
>>1598544
>claim that quivers were never ever used is just false.

That is literally the only part of his video which is true.

Note, he is not saying ALL quivers, he is saying BACK quivers are a Hollywood invention, they are.
>>
>>1598493
>Did archers of the old use these techniques in warfare or are these really just for show?

the fuck do you reckon?

>"hold up Leonidas, Thacimedes, I just gotta try and shoot 7 arrows at once at these Persians, fuck I dropped them gimme a second"
>'Naxos why are you holding them in your hand, use a fucking quiver like everyone else, you always drop them, nobody is impressed by your fucking "trick" shots either"
>>
>>1598552
You're right, I just took another look at the video and he only says stuff about back quivers. The rest of my points still stand though.
>>
>>1598493
>Is Lars Andersen a hack?

he's super talented at doing neat trick shots and at general archery, that's about all that can be said for him, he's a huge faggot about it though and probably believes bows are still supreme even though we stopped using them for wars like 300-400 years ago
>>
>>1598565
>stopped using them for wars like 300-400 years ago
This is wrong.

The ROC (aka Taiwan) army has a special unit called "mountain company". Consists solely of Taiwanese aborigines, who happened to live on the mountains as huntsmen.
They are survival specialists, their training includes crafting bows and arrows in the wild.
Normally they do not live in the barracks or wear uniforms, but when they do, it's either wartime or drill.
The purpose of this unit is of course stealth operation in mountainous terrain.

Also crossbows are still relied upon heavily throughout the world.
>>
>>1598569
>crossbows are still relied upon heavily throughout the world

uh-huh.

>one obscure unit that uses bows for training sometimes
>BOWS ARE STILL FOR WARS

fuck the green berets do this too, bunch of special forces probably know how to use bows, but it's hardly like a fucking bow and arrow is a mainstream weapon in warfare, stop being a faggot

Well you said bows were no longer used in warfare, that's explicitly wrong. You can sperge out all you want.

PNG tribes to this day still war with bows and arrows.

Oh no... so BTFO'd...
>>
>>1598493

>an archer needs to shoot at a fucking sword so that the arrow splits in half as a basic skill

if this guy serious?
>>

>>1598561
>Hurr
>Durr

Peoples all over the world (especially Amerindians) have been using back quivers since prehistory. They're just generally reserved for hunting because the only thing they have going for them is maneuverability. They're larger, heavier, slower and less convenient than other styles of quiver.
>>
>>1598606
>these one peoples used back quivers therefore back quivers were everywhere as per Hollywood invention

:^)
>>
>>1598618
>Hollywood invention

so back quivers are a hollywood meme, but catching arrows and splitting incoming arrows mid-air are hard historical facts, k lol

that shit was sewn by minor court ladies who'd definitely never even seen someone draw a bow, because if they did they'd know that medieval european archers drew to the cheek for accuracy and power

Lars Andersen is a hack and this whole thing is absolutely retarded.

Here's a summary of why (skip to 00:15:40):

in equilibrium the guys who use this technique if we follow the rule are supposed to know every fucking possible encounter (the environment the number of people thier weapon) this is one of the unrealizable film techniques even if it can look good some time
>>
>>1598493
>Is Lars Andersen a hack?

Yes, he is. He uses a 35 pd draw bow for his shit. The lowest amount that I have seen used in warfare ever is 50 pd draw by bushmen. 60 pd draw was the standard for much of the classical, with a few cultures using bows in the 75 to 90 pd draw weight range. Later medieval bows had made higher draw weight.

If those technigues were real he would be using a bow with a draw useful for war. I bet that he could not do that shit using a war bow.
>>
>>1603558
What if ancient ppl could do those tricks with stronger bows?
>>
>>1603558
He also doens't even fucking draw it fully.

>I SHOTS THROUGH THE ARMORS LOL

Yes, lars, i'm sure that isn't butted, and the fact that the video cuts from you shooting to the trash armor failing without us being able to see it's the same shot isn't fucking suspicious at all.
