Was the First World War really "the most pointless war ever" as is commonly believed? As I was unsure if that were the truth, because did countries like France and Belgium not have just as much justification if not more to fight in WW1 than in WW2?
There were valid reasons for it to be fought but it didn't need to be as extreme and long as it was.

>pointless
Literally how though
All participants had their reasons that weren't any worse than any other reasons any nation has ever had for going to war

it didnt so much when u walked into a village and recruited the fit and able men and handed them all a spear and uniform but now we are getting to automatic weapons and nuclear arsenals
shame human psychology didn't evolve along the same tandem gradiant

The war itself was hardly pointless, but half the world getting dragged in over a scrap of paper absolutely was.
Seems like empires dick waving at each other again but I guess no more pointless than any other war.
I guess the thing that would make it feel pointless was the way in which it was fought with men being cut down or blown apart for little strips of land that would just be lost to more men dying later on in the day.

It was perhaps the most world-changing war there ever was.

People who say anything is "pointless" are almost definitely talking in hindsight and have a very shallow view of history.
Everything in history has reasons as to why it happened.

pick one, war is brutal yes but so is life in the real world, as human evolved they built this matrix where everything is peaceful and lovely, in reality war is necessary, every animal on earth fights each other at some point, humans think they're any different, the truth is coming the years of merrymaking bringing in different cultures together forcing them as one will unleash utter chaos and destruction, you reap what you sow
