How do you start at "the first humans" without explaining great apes, mammals, the extinction events, creation of an oxygen-rich atmosphere, etc. There is tons of history underlying how humans debeloved, especially when you consider how messy the definition of "human" can be. But you throw all that out and start at a recognizable starting point with an embedded set of assumptions taken for granted.

Same basic principle. You start with some basic assumptions and move into your starting point.
