They invaded what they needed to
>>
>>1581614
Yes, read about operation Tannenbaum.
>>
>>1581637

Sure they did
>>
>>1581614
Because the swiss were helping them with gold and other valuables, then the swiss kept said gold at the end of the war
>>
>>1581614
You wouldn't rob your own bank, would you ?
>>
>>1581708
They certainly would have wanted the world to be axis-aligned. However I'm sure you would like a million dollars, but that doesn't mean you are planning to rob a bank.

Their goal was to preserve their power base and the long term survival of their regime. They couldn't win a war of attrition against the world which would eventually constrict around them, so if surrounding states would not be allies or peaceful, they escalated the conflict.
>>
>>1581614
If you want an actually insightful answer, it's because they needed a neutral power to exchange goods with the Allies and other neutral countries: the swiss acted as intermediaries. It is with that "nazi gold" switzerland was full off at the end of the war that germany made purchases of bellic materials (iron, coal, etc.) troughout the world. Because the Allies won't let shipments arrive to germany, but they had no quals with shipments meant for the """swiss""", provided they get a fair (read: high) share.
>>
>>1581772
basically this. it's incredible /his/ knows so little about history it took 8 people until someone finally arrived with the right answer.
>>
>>1582597
The right answer is there >>1581637
Ever wondered why they didnt invade Sweden, Spain...etc?
Because they invaded only what they needed to
>>
>>1582615
But why invade Denmark and Norway?
Also Spain was fascist and friendly towards Germany, and there was realistic hope Spain would join the war.
>>
>>1581772
I'd love to see you try to sauce your retarded claim that Germany was buying iron and coal from overseas through Switzerland.
>>
>>1581739
>muh /pol/
Kys

>>1582639
>But why invade Denmark and Norway?
Norway - secure the line through which iron came from Sweden and was exported through Narvik in Norway

Denmark - secure the entrance to the Baltic sea and Danish airfield needed to invade Norway
>>
>>1581772
Yes because the allies let tons of coal and steel trough to arrive in Italian or German ports on the promise it would go to Switzerland(Switzerland has no ports, I hope this information is redundant).
The Allies weren't this stupid and I refuse to believe that you are.
>>
>>1582694
Makes sense I suppose.

What geopolitical role did Luxembourg play?

>muh supply lines
That's what Japan used as justification for bringing all of East Asia in their sphere of influence. Well, when they weren't claiming to be liberating it from Whitey.
>>
>>1581614
Because for what they would have gained, it wasn't worth the effort. I have no doubt eventually the Swiss would have gotten a "accept National Socialism and join the Pact of Steel" ultimatum if the war had gone well for Germany, but until they could devote enough resources invading that little mountainous region would have been a nightmare.

>>1581637
They DID invade Yugoslavia for the crime of backing out of their alliance, though.

>What geopolitical role did Luxembourg play?
Same reason they invaded it in 1914: they considered it rightful German clay. I don't think either the Second or Third Reich even officially recognized Luxembourg as an independent country.
