>"For all of history until the 1800s, Asia was decades - sometimes centuries - beyond European culture and knowledge."

Anime is literally millennia ahead of European culture.

India, Persia, Japan, Mesopotamia, Babylon, Khmers, Assyria...
>>1574594
Very. China until the industrial revolution was the place where loads of luxury goods and ideas came from. The Chinese have a very solid history of technological superiority over Europe primarily due to the long term stability of the various Chinese Imperial states.

Everyone acknowledged the superiority of China, yes. I don't think anyone was too envious of the Japanese or Mongols post-empire though.

>For all of history until the 1800s
Hilariously false. From the fall of Rome to the Renaissance, that's it.
>>1574741
Correct, the Han Dynasty and Imperial Rome were roughly even contemporaries. It wasn't until later when Europe collapsed that China pulled so far ahead, which lasted till around the Renaissance or Enlightenment.

I'd say Edo Japan was more stable and developped than Qing China.
>>1574594
It is true until the end of the rise of Yuan, even then Yuan saw great mathematicians being born. The Ming dynasty was one of the most stable empires in history. But many of their inovations, espesally firearms came from Jesuits. But the Ming dynasty saw great growth in social development and medicine tho.

I would agree with this, edo period japan was more stable and centrelised than Qing who constantly had to quelle revolts. I think Edo Japan was more urbanization than Qing, but don't quote me on that one.
