>France used to be the oldest daughter of the Church
>Now it's one of the most anti-Catholic countries around

How did this even happen? I know that during the Revolution of 1789 a lot of shit went down with the Church because they implicitly supported the Ancien Regime, but Napoleon did his best to mend things (Concordat of 1801). Afterwards we had the disastrous Bourbon restoration, then the Second Empire led by the very pro-Catholic Napoleon III and then the Third Republic. Why did the Third Republic once again devolve into anti-religious sentiment that went way further than 'regular' secularism as it existed in other countries, especially when there was no strict 'need' for it like in the First Republic?

>The Catholic Church of France, sometimes called the "eldest daughter of the Church" owing to its early and unbroken communion (2nd century) with the bishop of Rome, is part of the worldwide Catholic Church.

Because they finally had enough of the corrupted church eating on the back of the poors. They saw it for what it is, a device in the service of the oppressive state to ease the masses into submission

Yes, as anon said, read a book.

Because of good ol' descartes, voltaire etc?

And Protestantism is only a way to make the masses okay with mass subjugation to economic barons, with the "muh faith and not works" autism.

See, I can meme too.

Cause you needed a reason to make this thread, thats why.

France didn't become Protestant tho, it became ultra secularist. All priests are frauds, all churches are scams.

Then why is everyone so secular these days?
>>
A succesful secular revolution that altered the culture. The masses will follow whatever ideology the ones in power enforce and teach in schools, and worse yet they will think it's their own opinion.

Catho clergy was anti-republican
Catho clergy was ultra political at the moment of the revolution
Here 2 good reason to fight the catholic church in france for the republican.
>>
>>1573158
That was 1789, which doesn't explain the 1905 law in effect to this very day.
>>
>>1573158
There's literally nothing wrong with being anti-republican
Republics are shit
>>
>>1573197
The 1905 law is an excellent legal protection against Islam.
Things would be way worse without it.
