His reasoning and logic in his plan to invade Russia was valid. He just didn't expect to win but completely destroy Russian army. He also didn't expect Russians to burn down Muscow and retreat further back for winter, he assumed he would need to defeat Russian army and occupy Muscow and they would capitulate. Needless to say, they didn't.
