Does anyone know of any good reads on ancient religions, religious practices and myths? I'm very interested in the similarities between different cultures and their religious beliefs. It does get exhausting having to filter through a lot of neo pagan probably made up shit.

A lot of people poo poo Joseph Campbell for his monomyth stuff, but this book is a genuinely good and interesting read on the creation of a good myth story. Certainly goes into the similarities in some myths & cultures.

No problem man, if you enjoy it check out the TV series he did in the 80s with Bill Moyers called 'The Power of Myth', which is essentially a TV summary of that book. It's really fucking good & interesting.
Then he has some good mythology books under the Masks of God series.

This was just the kind of stuff I was looking for. I really, really appreciate it. Going to see if I can stream the show while I try to get my hands on the physical books.
Ancient religions are just so fascinating to me and I never seem to get tired of reading about them.
