Dovetailing off of your post, there's a book titled War Without Mercy that goes into the nitty gritty details about American propaganda against the Japanese in WWII. It's main premise that the PTO was a race war aside, it's a very interesting read and a good look at how the U.S. reacted to events in the Pacific.
