Where does self awareness/consciousness fit into the evolutionary model, it seems like a trump card of sorts
Pic unrelated
Somewhere between modern humans and more primitive apes if you can prove that they doesn't have it, which they could.

I get where it is chronologicaly, I meant functionally
>>1543181
That was my fault for using "when" instead of "how"

Greater awareness leading to improved reproductive fitness on average in the context of human social groups over thousands of generations (not just meaning not being an autist, but understanding of natural phenomena necessary for acquiring food/not dying in general, induction, deduction etc).

Then why haven't more species evolved this, it obviously gives a huge advantage. According to the theory only two species have, and of them only one survived
>>1543196
Because it wouldn't have been an advantage/possible for most species in there situation, there are trade offs always, more of your daily energy acquired from food directed to the brain, evolution is efficient, it doesn't maximise, or select for things that people ignorantly think should be selected for in hindsight without accounting for all relevant factors.

Sorry m8 but
*their situation
Anyways, I think I understand now, the results are subjective to each individual species

Nice OCD demonstration, if only I cared enough to fix mistakes that don't lead to misunderstanding.
You could also ask why don't humans have X trait possessed by other species, mantis shrimp vision, echolocation etc, it goes both ways.

> Then why haven't more species evolved this
You can't just evolve something because it would be handy. Like why people doesn't evolved to just take all energy from the sun like plants?
>>1543196
>Then why haven't more species evolved this,
One does not need to be capable to solve difficult mathematical tasks in order to be self-aware. Apes, dolphins, elephants almost certainly posses consciousness. It's speculated that it might be far more widespread among mammals and birds.

What always fucks me is thinking about how our perception of reality is a product of evolution and therefor doesn't have to be accurate or complete but only capable of being propagated. Everything we know could be completely wrong or there might be fundamental parts of the natural world that we will never be able to perceive let alone understand.
Pretty much everything about modern human civilization, large cities, market based trade relationships, altruism, it's all evolutionary novel, I would love to see how humanity progresses and adapts to the upcoming hardships we've brought upon civilization.
Will we adapt with a changing worldview that would be congruent with sustainable civilized life? Or will we evolve into the niche we are already suited for?

As long as the fuck spawn can keep fucking there is no need.

What does this have to do with op?
Not much, I just say a thread and wrote down something I wanted to right.

Interesting tangent though, obviously something will occur.
