Was reconstruction a form of genocide? Why has the North never

If anything the North wasn't hard enough on the South. They should have completely broken the entire Southern aristocracy and upper class, assuming they didn't just execute them all for treason.

eeh I would say that Britain like the US has done more good than harm in its time. This is just my opinion though. In the interest of remaining on top in europe the british had to smooth talk, lie, cheat, and ham fistedly make war on others to beat the rest down as a managerial tactic, not out of strict malice. The whole 'eternal anglo' meme is just resentment and banter from other countries who've been subject to this. Until the first world war, people forget there was like a century of relative peace due to Britain's supremacy and vigilance. Once the first world war shattered this and after the US was needed in the interest of itself and others after the second world war to assume the mantle of world police, Britain stopped meddling. I also doubt this was severe and lasted long in the first place, since the South was politically and culturally very autonomous and influential in the XXth century.

Not American, but Southerners were spoiled brats compared to other rebels in history. Separatism and treason is no joke, especially after waging a war for so long.

If this had happened in Europe, the confederated would have been slaughtered like animals or deported and basically annihilated.
