Why was there never a major socialist movement in meiji and post meiji japan unlike in china or korea?
There was, student activists in the 60's were heavily socialist and communist.
Japan is the most ironically pro-Communist country in the world. Their invasion of China led to the rise of the CCP, and their colonial legacy in Korea led to the establishment of North Korea.
