Why are Unions so hated by working-class whites when historically they were the biggest defenders of their interests?

Prior to about the 1960s they were:
-anti-immigration (were the driving force behind the Chinese Exclusion Act in 1882, the Immigration Act of 1924, and other measures)
-pro-gun
-anti-state
-pro-family
-pro-West (they conceived of the idea of an "American Standard of Living" in contrast to third-world wage slavery)
-pro-white
-pro-protectionism and anti-globalism

Shouldn't people like /pol/tard love unions?
>>
>>1500188
Because they became legitimate extortion rackets after being overtaken by the mob in the 40's and 50's. They also began actively working against the average worker in favor of personal political kickbacks (See: NAFTA and CAFTA). True unionization died decades ago in America and they aren't coming back anytime soon.
>>
Public employees unions are the ones that the white middle class is against. And rightly so. Private sector unions are not under attack.
>>
>>1500188
>Prior to about the 1960s they were
I'm looking at my calendar right now, and for some reason it doesn't say "1960" on it.
>>
A modern union, in it's most basic form, is an artificial monopoly on labor. They restrict the jobs under their jurisdiction in order to demand higher pay/more benefits.

Anyone who is benefiting from Union membership is obviously going to have a positive outlook on them. If you aren't, you're essentially getting an opportunity cost levied on you since you could have had a job at market value where they not artificially skewing supply.

Public unions are also very politicized and back legislation that tends to be pretty far left.
>>
>>1500188

globalism butt-fucked unions. now that unions are no longer legitimate they have turned to illegitimate means to stay relevant. In doing so they have become the things they used to fight against.
>>
>>1500188

Have you ever been in a Union? I have. Once upon a time, they were wonderful, but that was long ago and they certainly haven't done shit all to rectify that.

I'm not anti-union, I just think they need to clean up their fucking act.

Many private-sector unions are still fairly well-perceived (albeit less so in recent decades, since globalism has hit American manufacturing like a wrecking ball and they've degenerated considerably) but public-sector unions are basically cancer incarnate and run by the mafia to boot.
>>
>>1500188
Class-cuckery.

Antonio Gramsci defined power, broadly, as "getting people to want what you want them to want." Skillful propaganda campaigns, as well as legitimate fears of socialist violence, scared workers away from even making demands that were fully compatible with capitalism. By the cold war, most American workers believed their lack of control over their own industries was a good thing.

Next, "false consciousness" is how causes that don't substantially advance the standing of workers can distract from class struggle. Socialists generally see nationalism as the ultimate false consciousness, as workers die for the glory of their country even though gaining a couple new provinces means nothing to the common person. Fascism can even be more insidious, because it combines false consciousness with the soft reforms of social democracy which placate workers despite keeping wealth and control in the hands of capitalists.

>get job
>hey you can join a Union anon
>they take 10 dollars out of your paycheck each month
>okay so uh...what do I get
>you get a guaranteed 30 hours a week and they'll fully represent you if you get injured on the job
>charter of Union requires them to represent all hurt employees regardless of Union or non Union
>got like 28 hours one week because I took 3 days off, every other week was 31-40+

American Unions are literally pyramid schemes.

Free-riders like you are total scum and can't think beyond your own paycheck.

It might be the fact they're run by commie jews

Not him, but as an industrial electrician who has worked both union and non-union jobs: the Union jobs are usually worse or there's no difference.
>>
>>1500337
The Union did literal jack shit. The company followed the minimum labor laws set forth by lawmakers, the Union never petitioned for raises or benefits and I certainly had neither except of course for the government mandated minimum raises and benefits as required by laws passed fucking decades ago + the gradual raise in minimum wage laws. The Union existed so the Union makers could make money off idiots.

They weren't always, Terrence Powderly, Samuel Gompers, Big Bill Haywood, John Lewis, and Eugene Debs were all proud white men.

To add on to this, the reason I always got more than 30 hours was because we were always short handed. We were always short handed because the Union set a limit on how many people we could actively hire, and then corporate allocated hours so they could get the maximum potential out of minimal people accordingly, instead of just hiring how many people we actually need and allocating hours based on good workers instead of allocating workers based on "how close can we get to overtime without going over in as few dollars as possible."

Fuck American Unions in general. I'm not saying Unions are obsolete, I'm saying most American Unions are complete shit and in bed with the corporations in what amounts to fucking money laundering schemes. Fuck them, they should be fucking shot for being treasonous corporate lapdogs.

Then we're on the same side. Unfortunately, many workers will never earn the capital to own their own business.
>>
>>1500188

because most unions now are corrupt as fuck and run by left wing cucks who've never been on a jobsite or actual organized crime figures
>unions then
>corrupt but for the workers
>anti-immigration
>anti-globalist
>stand up to big business

>unions now
>either hardline radical leftwing or standover rackets
>support immigration and every cuck leftist policy
>globalist
>collude with big business

British unions are absolutely disgusting. I just assume many foreign ones are the same. Men like Scargill and McClusky are/were some of the most despicable individuals present in politics here.
>>
>>1500597
What? Unions are much less radical than they've ever been
>>
Eeh American unions are corrupt as shit so of course they're hated. It doesn't help that workers' cause has been demonized ever since it started to take off in the mid 1800s. Meanwhile in Nordic countries unionization rates are 80% and overall in Europe unions work.

unions in Australia shill for refugees and open borders

They did before mass immigration undermined the situation for the native working classes.

All of them? Or just the supposedly vulnerable and "useless" ones like teachers and nurses? Nearly retard against "public unions" is a coward and a hypocrite, since they always exempt cops and firefighters from their anti-union legislation, despite cops and firefighters being the most financially draining unions in the country. They're the reason cities go bankrupt, not teachers.

You mean having unions that are actually run by laborers instead of lawyers, and that don't interfere with the markets except to prevent death and injury?

Nah, that sounds pretty good actually.
