What was historically the most 'free' nation in Europe?
France?
England?
a German state (Hamburg)?
an Italian state (Venice)?

The Netherlands. Not entirely free, but still.

The french revolution rivaled that of the American revolution in terms of world impact.

>rivaled
You mean far exceeded?
Venice was free as fuck, and protected Swiss-born Reformed theologian and Bible translator (to Italian) Giovanni Diodati and all manner of other Reformers in a land that is synonymous with Catholic domination even today.
England.

I really wish i was able to spend a weekend in frankfurt or hamburg in the mid eighties. But sadly, i have to live in germany in 2k16. Germany only had potential when the world seperated it into a good and shittier part.
>>1491402
Obviously the Netherlands
>>1492011
Prussia was a mistake.
>>1491402
Venice kinda became a police state towards the end, but political freedom aside you can certain make the case they were they freest european country in their time.

>a land that is synonymous with Catholic domination even today
This is such bullshit, unless you mean it from a strictly religious point of view. Italian states were generally defiant of the papacy throughout history, the kingdom of Italy was specifically anticlerical, and the italian republic is no more deferent to the church than any other catholic country.
