So were all the Moors black, or was it that if you were a 13th century Englishman and you saw a black guy he was probably A Moor.

It's because the painters at the time were probably stupid and very liberal in their use of the word Moor. They helped spawn the 'WE WUZ' movement among blacks.

Some where some were mixed some didn't look black. It varied, the genetics of North Africa is very complicated and interesting.
Moor could mean a north African style/of North Africa or be synonymous with blackness.
