Chomsky is one of the original "meme" philosophers. Holy fuck, did you never go to college? The old line about vegans applies just as much to Chomsky-devotees: "Q: How do you know if someone is a Chomskyite? A: Don't worry, they'll fucking tell you."

And I genuinely admire Chomsky. He has a knack for asking good questions. He sometimes just comes up with retarded answers. He's also so fundamentally American in his way of thinking. Hell, after his debate with Foucault I think he'd earned himself a chapter in The Metaphysical Club.

Chomsky exemplifies anaemic ethics. He is a good egg and wants to make the world a better place and I have no doubt he would be incorruptible if he had authority and I will be sad when he dies, but he is utterly incompetent when it comes to eliminating crime and corruption in others. Some of his policies might make things difficult for le evil corporations, but I suspect things would start to look like Venezuela soon and he would be ousted by some strongman demagogue who represents the side of socialism he dislikes, he would let Islamists walk all over him, the cold war would still be going on if we followed his advice.
