>materialism btfo
>metaphysics btfo
>Kant and Plato exposed.
>Nietzsche saved and done right.

thank you for posting this thread OP helped me discover this man's dank, dank philosophy
>"Cur Deus homo? Why, to what purpose, did He become man, expose himself to injurious mistreatment, ignominious and painful death on the cross? Was it not in order to show man, through His example, that no decision is too hard, that it is worth while bearing anything in order not to remain in the womb of the One? That any torture whatever to the living being is better than the 'bliss' of the rest-satiate 'ideal' being?"

Shestov was a philosopher who attacked systematic philosophy, among other things. He liked to poke fun at philosophers and writers (including himself). A big part of his philosophy was a lack of any system or teaching but his work is underlined by a sense of pluralism and a desire to encourage other philosophers to be creative.
He also wrote a lot about fiction and fiction writers, most of the Russian ones. Tolstoy and Dostoevsky get brought up a lot in his works. Some times he praises Tolstoy and some times he calls him out.
Are Chestov's works available in English?
