Forget Medieval Longsword Vs Katana

What about Celtic Longsword vs Katana? The Celts were absolute master metalworkers who were the leaders of metallurgy in their day, making pattern welded swords.
>>
Celts didn't make longswords, you dingus

this thread again..

Yes they did.

>>1447545

Celtic swords were typically quite short, the Roman Gladius is based on them. The long swords they made were typically made of poor quality iron, and would be used to deliver a wallop on the charge but then dropped because they would bend on impact.
>>
>>1447545
Longswords are a late medieval creation, not a celtic one.
>>
>>1447545
they were made with similar techniques.

"By the 2nd and 3rd century AD, the Celts commonly used pattern welding for decoration in addition to structural reasons. The technique involves folding and forging alternating layers of steel into rods"

>yfw Japanese swordmaking was more then 1000 years behind European
>>
>>1447582
>Yes they did.
They made long swords, but they didn't make longswords.
>>
>>1447574
>Hitting a sword on a fixed sword damages it
No duh, dipshit.
>>
>>1447570
did too
>>
>>1447582
No, that's the Iberian sword. Not all the people of Hispania were Celts, not even most.
>>1447605
Autism incarnate
A longsword is a long sword, it doesn't have to mean medieval 2handed longsword.
>>
>>1447634
Except the other sword was barely nicked
>>
>>1447813
You know nothing about swords and should really stop talking.

I know everything about swords and you should stop pretending.
>>
>The Celts

I hate this meme, there was a lot of diversity amongst the celts

some groups of celts had swords which could only chop, and would be blunted after a single hit
>>
>>1447830
Because the practitioner is purposely mishandling the weapon. The other sword is barely nicked due to the angle at which the damage is delivered. Swords of any kind can get fucking destroyed after a few hits if used improperly, that's why people who use them go through training first.
Anyone with an ounce of knowledge on the subject would never wield a sword like that.
>>
>>1447886
Not to mention they're probably wildly different in quality
>>
>making pattern welded swords.
that's just compensating the poor quality of the material. literally exactly same thing than nipponese "folding over 9000 times" shit. except that celts didn't fold it that many times.

It works, if you use a good sword.

Longsword are single-handed weapons. Yes you can halfsword them, but they're not claymores.

never understood why these went out of use. their celtic counterparts had absolutely no real advantage over them. maybe they were just too exotic and cool to germans to miss.

That's my point. Confused culturally Anglo people won't shut up about their fucking magical treehugging "ancestors" of the primarily the british isles. It is time for them to wake up and realise what kind of a failure the celts were. There is a reason they are gone and all that remains of them today are some meme languages none except a couple of thousand outback farmer and fishermen, in countries of several millions, uses in their daily lives.

>WE WUZNT FILTHY KELTOI! WE ARE PURE BLOODED 30% GERMANICS
>(Followed by making fun of still somewhat Celtic peoples in Britain)
>>
>>1449338
I know the Anglos are from what today is Denmark-Germany. My point is that people who are from the Anglo-sphere of the world, that is; culturally descendants of the Germanic peoples, won't stop romanticising the Celts.
> "Muh Celts were the best at [insert-X-here] of their time"

If You've ever been to any history-related platform were Anglos post you will constantly find this meme-tier garbage being posted.

A sword is nothing. You actually believe a untrained person could kill a experienced samurai just because of the sowrd? or vice versa.
