Capitalism inherently brings power to a portion of the population.

Democracy is about the population as a whole having a say.

Libertarians are about democracy AND capitalism.

Its literally a system that has to rely on both capitalism and democracy not winning out over the other.

In effect it is. Libertarianism in practice is the absence of state power. The problem is that in any libertarian society, some group will acquire power and become "the state", even if they're not formally classified as such. Nature abhors a vacuum and all that. The closest we can have to a sustainable libertarian society is a state which engages in minimal intervention. However, even such a state isn't really sustainable - whoever holds political power (whether the populace or an elite) will try to get the government to favor their interests.
