The war ended with the paris peace accords, in which north vietnam agreed to stop fighting. Their attempted military invasion of south vietnam had totally failed

It was a failure even though the US won every major battle and was on the verge of winning. Blame the hippies if you want. Didn't matter anyway, the war was pointless

Correct. North vietnam started another war which america refused to get involved in and south vietnam lost. Hence america "technically" won, they achieved their war goals for the conflict they fought in while their opponents did not
