They both rebelled against a monarchy, but one was a colony, the other were natives of the country.

Because in france there were new people in power who had no experience running a nation, whearas in america the new leadership was composed almost entirely of people who already governed the country. It really was more of an american secession.

They didn't necessarily share ideals though. The American Revolution was more based on principles developed in England, which was arguably already a modern democracy with something approaching modern rights, it was certainly well on the way there.

the American Revolution was only rebeling against an external authority and they had already been using republic-style governments in each of the states. the French Revolution on the other hand was an actual revolution that tried to completely remodel society. they even tried to replace the Catholic church with a meme atheist church and when that didn't work out they tried making a meme deist church
