North American Indian languages could possibly have a small similarity with PIE roots due to their (speculative?) origin in India, but Central and South American had literally no contact with Eurasia.

Pretty sure it's coincidental. Even if Mayan languages share an ancestor with Indo-European, they diverged so long ago that practically no similarities would be preserved.

I came across a tidbit that ties into some of the previous translations in this thread:

"It was known as "The Book of the Mat" because of the woven mats the people would sit on to hear the work recited at the council house"

Taking into account that a more authentic pronunciation would be Popol Wuj or even Popo Wuj (K'iche Maya language has no "v" sound, Wuy = woo with an "h" sound on the end) and after looking up some of the K'iche language I think here might be some merit to this.
