I'm from Canada and we have a large number of people of Polish and Ukrainian ethnicity. Is there any reason why there's why these two produced the largest emigrant numbers from Eastern Europe? I think I've met a total of 3 people in my life that are Czechoslovak decent, but literally the majority of people I know are Ukrainian.

I'm Czech and I know a guy who used to live in Canada in 80's and thought he would stay there, but returned right after the gommie regime fell.

Ukrainian immigration to Canada happened back in Austria-Hungary days since Eastern Galicia was extremely overpopulated and life there was pretty shitty. Ukrainians from the Russian controlled territory migrated Eastwards to Siberia and Far East generally, there was a lot of them back in the day there. Canada was chosen because they could live the same farming life there in exchange for development of Western provinces, and USA was essentially taken by people who had arrived there earlier, like Irish or whatever. Then they managed to settle well enough to form a decent tight-knit community, especially since Galician Ukrainians were very into self-organization back in the day. Then people moved there in waves after Ukrainian People's Republic fell, after WW2 and after the collapse of USSR because there has already been a well-organized helpful community there.

Don't know about Polish emigration but I assume it was something similar. Also which part of Canada are you from, OP?
