Why is one of the states called Wyoming?
Wyoming is named after some local tribe in that area
>>
>>
>>1147643
>Wyoming is named after some local tribe in that area

>The region had acquired the name Wyoming by 1865, when Representative James Mitchell Ashley of Ohio introduced a bill to Congress to provide a "temporary government for the territory of Wyoming". The territory was named after the Wyoming Valley in Pennsylvania, made famous by the 1809 poem Gertrude of Wyoming by Thomas Campbell, based on the Battle of Wyoming in the American Revolutionary War. The name ultimately derives from the Munsee word xwé:wamənk, meaning "at the big river flat."[12][13]

Looks like that area is around where the Munsee lived.

I'm secretely a fan of Bruce Munro's shit and it makes me wish to known more about Africa and India to match his map. I always get the creeping suspicion that the boundaries of the African microstates that he often draws are just made up because he doesn't want space-filling empires there.

Me.
Out of curiosity, is there any way Japan could've become Islamic instead of Shinto/Buddhist? I've seen some timelines where Japan became Christian but never Islamic. It's a stretch but maybe not ASB-tier, plus it could just be the Ainu or something.

What if the Finnish Empire managed to complete Operation Tavallinen and stop the Hwan Empire from firing the Giza Mass Autism Array?
>>
>>1148958
I don't think there was ever much direct contact between the middle east and Japan. The timelines where Japan is christian is due to portuguese and spanish influence during the age of colonization.

To make Japan muslim you would need some crazy over the top shit like a muslim chinese or south east asian (they both exist) conquering the place and somehow making the state religion.

Yeah, either that or some crazy person goes to some part of Japan, sees all the un-islamic barbarians and takes it upon himself to convert them. Add in a few lucky coincidences and it could happen within a couple generations, even altering the writing system.
A muslim China/ east asian caliphate would be interesting too, maybe resulting in an Islamic Korea as well? Or it could cause Japan to become a fragmented mess of some Muslim, some Shinto/Buddhist provinces, and some christian areas to the south preventing it from ever truly uniting.
>>
Are there any hyper-religious maps, where nation-states are subsumed into ethnic and spiritual collectives?
>>
>>1148009
what the fuck happened here?
>>
How does this make you feel?
>>
>>1149006
But the man in question should be a very extraordinary man. Islam never had anything similar to the Society of Jesus who were master proselytizers. Islam expanded either by sword or by trade.
>>
>>1149033
Yeah but if anything can produce eccentrics religious fervor does it best.. Could be a group of people too, establishing trade routes Via the silk road but with people traveling to Japan itself as traders? Hell if parts of Russia/Korea went Muslim then they could travel to Hokkaido.
>>
>>1149048
Routes don't exist just because. The silk road is older than history.

To go from any potential muslim country to Japan, you need to go through China, the main source of culture for the japanese historically. In fact I mantain than any muslim influence into Japan should come from China and maybe Korea like Budhism did.

There's muslims in china, so we just need to explain why (not how, since that's easy) islam should spread to Korea/Japan and become the majority religion. Remember islam doesn't have the power of syncretism of budhism, not even on it's less orthodox forms like sufism.
>>
>>1149075
Yeah shoulda clarified that. For a wholly Islamic Japan it would need to come from China specifically. Would it be possible for most of China to convert to Islam, then Japan, but not Korea?
What if it goes further back so that the borders of Mongolia are shifted further to the east, so Muslim steppe people have a greater chance of influencing Korea/Japan as well as China? sorry, my info on this region isn't the clearest.
>>
>>1149090
I seriously doubt that it's possible for the majority of China to become muslim or any abrahamic religion. It didn't even work with the kind of budhismthat best fitted them. It just goes against the concept of imperial china to have something ideologically stronger than the chinese sentiment itself.

That said, a major muslim influence is by no means impossible although I don't feel imaginative now on how I would justify it. Maybe you could have more chinese merchants adopting islam like in east africa, but I don't really know to be honest. Maybe if the merchant elites of Korea and Japan started to adopt islam you could have something to work around.
>>
>>1149106
I should also mention that the divinity of the emperor is even more of a red flag in islam than in christianity. That's gonna cause serious problems.
>>
>>1149106
Yeah I suspect that to get China itself to accept Islam you'd have to fragment it a lot more, altering its history further back than the start of Islam. Chinese merchants or Mongolians would be a likelier bet.

Your other bet is the following: Kublai Khan (or a substitute for your reality) adopts islam > Khan is succesful in conquering Japan > after the dissolution of the empire a local mongol muslim dynasty rules Japan > somehow the whole thing manages to survive and flourish.

But my knowledge in mongol historyis not enough to grant you help for the details. Also the result would probably be something completely different to modern Japan (even more than if it's through chinese trade), don't expect muslim samurais or something if you choose this path.

Sometimes I end up not even building the parallel world, and just get lost into a sea of information, but it's worth it.

Let me explain the Geography
Europe
>After the sacking of Rome, Europe fell apart.
>After 200 years of monarchy, it banned together to make The European Federation. Way ahead of its time.
>A few states didn't cooperate. For example, the first Riech was forming around now, the grey bits. The year is 1700.

Africa + Middle East
>The sage bit is the African + Middle Eastern Islamic Confederation.
>The pink bit is Makkah or Mecca.
>Beige is the Egyptian empire.
>White is the Carthage city state.
>Other white is Morocco, the Grey is Libya.

No it isn't. In the book, Canada is free and neutral, Africa was genocided into an empty continent by the Germans, and Italy embarked on their retarded draining scheme with German help.

care to explain this mess?
>>
>>1158406
It's a historical map of the world in 1356, not alt history. There is no explanation, that's just what it looked like back then.

If you're wondering why it's such a mess, most of the little splotches here and there are dynastic fiefdoms and vassals of something or other. For example most of the shit around France was actually dependent on France proper. The dark gold near Castille was the personal lands of the house of Trastámara, who eventually revolted and became the new ruling dynasty after the War of the Two Peters. And of course east of all that is the >HRE, the emperor of all messes. And of course the balkans are a mess too, as is tradition.

In the east, China was fragmented by the Red Turban Rebellion, which ended in the destruction of the Yuan dynasty and the establishment of the Ming dynasty.

For those that don't get it: the first one is how America shows the world to the citizens and this one is how it actually looks like. The point of divergence is the Cuban crisis.

I honestly don't remember the point of divergence. All I remember is the US had a socialist coup, they were larger due to saber rattling/war but are starting to fall into two factions (the old south vs the rest more or less). Fashoda went hot for a few years and England now has all the land they need (whether directly or indirectly) to have a singapore to capetown railroad.

After that, little else like the fuck is going on in Boliva, Austria, or central India.

I loved the Iron Dream timeline with no Hitler when Europe got wrecked so hard by the USSR that the USA and Imperial Japan make another Axis to stop them.
>>
Carthage never gets annexed, Rome never falls, Constantinople never gets overrun, Carthage buffers against arabization and islamic activity west of Egypt. Sweden grows large, with the power of Novgorod and thus Russia diminished for a long time due to Hanseatic monopoly on trade. Finnish and Estonian as languages are quickly dissapearing due to forced assimilation. Hanseatic League becomes an independent nation and rapidly gains influence, unifying Germany untill the union fragments with the reformation, balkanizing southern germany untill its eventual unification. Then, Prussia gains enough power to strong-arm their own independence and triple in size against loosely unified white russian states. Kurdistan is given independence when the arab republic forms, against the will of Byzantium/Eastern Rome. Carthage/Southern Rome is weakening quickly with Spanish imperialism to the west, islamic conquest to the east, and shaky relations with Rome itself.

A surviving Carthage would make for a completely different Europe. Without the victory over Carthage, Rome would probably not expand nearly as much as it did, meaning there would be no Constantinople. Those countries (and many of the borders) are too close to original timeline countries.
>>
>>1161233
Sorry, meant to write "burned" instead of annexed. More proper, Carthage would be annexed rather than razed with the grounds salted.

>>1161250
Okay, I was wondering where there was a Southern Rome if Carthage was supposed to survive. It's pretty hard to theorise what europe would look like with a point of divergence so far back. I suppose a surviving city of Carthage (which was in OTL rebuilt by Julius Caesar about two centuries later) would mean a huge advantage for the Romans. Still, does that mean Rome expands but later breaks into three as well as loses large parts of its land to foreign invaders (who end up exactly where they did in OTL)? Also, why is a large part of Europe a wasteland?
>>
>>1161279
Yes. It breaks into three rather than two when the statesmanship become too strenous and the amount of bureocracy became counterproductive in repelling various kinds of hordes, and of course the original reason as well. So they split into two. Each one more or less survived different barbarian invasions, although the original Rome was weakened more than the rest, and when Carthage wanted to secede, there wasn't anything Rome could do about it except accept it.

The white part is me not having any idea at all on the politics or history of slav lands, so instead that's a loosely unified bundle of states (think HRE) that barely co-operate.
>>
>>1161321
.. Or well.. First they split into two, then the original Rome splits into two again, creating Carthage.

This isn't near finished yet, it's just been taking longer than I like. It's a map of what would have happened if Henry V did not die so early and was therefore able to outlive Charles VI and inherit France instead of himself, meaning that England really won the HYW.

Another divergence is that Charles the Bold wasn't killed and though the Habsburgs were allied with the Spanish Royal Family they never inherited shit because you didn't have the unfortunate deaths there either.

Also the bits of Spain in Albania represent various attempts on the part of the Spanish to try and cuck both Venice and the Turks.

Interesting. I've never seen anyone draw subdivision borders in the national colour like that - looks quite good, I must say.
Anyway, here's a WIP of mine that I've put away for a bit. It's really more of an experiment on tiny little statelets.
The backstory: Axis victory (I know, cliche) that turns into a cold war between fascists and turns nuclear. The gray countries are fascist controlled, the white ones are neutral, the ones with colours are the strongerst powers and the ones in lighter colours are in their sphere.

1926, only a year after the first world war.

The brits lost no pressure in becoming the dominant force in every respect. What rhey didnt realize is that the collective efforts of the Empire of the United States of America along eith the Russian Empire and Communist France where collectivly done with Britains shit. This central alliance against republican Germany and GB lasted 10 years. America alone lost well over a million lives and their entire navy and was unsurprosngly the first to leavs the war, after completely destroying britain so that the remainin powers picked them clean as well as all their puppets.

Britain then fell to fascism unable to defend itself against the blackshirt tide.

Roleplay wise I saw china fall to chaos and wanted to cut off land routes for both portugal and britains treaty ports to the rest of asia. That and for my world war plan i needed more bodies and made them states right off the bat. So america now has 53 states. Soon to be more in africa.

Historically speaking America got these once again during the warlord period when she was just becoming a huge deal. And like america she didnt want a tiny treaty port. So she wrecked and took thay whole part of china to basicallt say to the european powers that she is the new big dog.
