When I was a kid, I went to private schooling (not the most prestigious one but still a rather good one where some kids had parents with Porsches, but not my family) and my parents were raking in around 200,000 USD before taxes, and not accounting benefits too. I'm not American but we'll just estimate using US currency.

My mother made me learn violin (hated it), I did sports, went on my first plane ride vacation for two weeks when I was about 14, and I live in one of the richest areas of my country, but nowadays my parents only make about 150,000 annually.

I'm in university, as is my older brother, and I'm thinking about becoming a lawyer. I also just spent the last school year abroad as an international exchange student in Europe.

I've always wondered for historical perspective how wealthy my family would've been 210 years back - in the Napoleonic times. Could anyone guesstimate where I'd be in such a society?

I made this thread yesterday and hoped it would continue into today, but I was busy and it timed out.

Also, post your favourite Napoleonic era uniforms.

There are different ways to measure this. If you look at your country's average income, you can measure it by quartile and then figure out if you're part the top 10% or 5% or 1% of your country's average income.

You could also measure it by total wealth - you have real estate/capital worth X amount of dollars, as compared to the average European burgher in 1800 who had Y amount of real estate/capital (accounting for inflation if possible).

You could also measure it by trade/occupation - your parents do X, and X had Y privileges and level of respect in 1800s society, so you'd have that social status in 1800s society.

Overall, try the percentile measurement first.

Idk
I don't feel really "rich" by today's standards, and I know people who're far wealthier than my family. I feel middle-upper-middle class, upper-middle at most.

Ok so I'm from Canada. Apparently in 2013 the median income was 76,550, and my parents in their combined income is about 150,000 yearly before taxes.

I'm really terrible at math, sorry, I need some help here with what to do.

I make 15k a yr working my ass off while going to school. I have zero family support, and my dad recently moved back in with me, rather than vice versa.

You are not filthy rich, but you're not poor either. A decade of frugality and your family would have a million saved up, easy.

In before shitheads assume I must be an unproductive asswipe.
