There is little to no unifying identity in Afghanistan or Iraq. There is a very strong sense of civic duty in Japanese culture, probably fostered by the fact that Japan culturally and racially very homogeneous. Not so in Iraq or Afghanistan.

The issue is that Japan had samurai culture for 1000. If you showed disrespect or impolitenesss to a samurai, they were legally allowed to kill you.

Such a society practiced civic duty and politeness.

Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and West Germany succeeded because the local governments cooperated with the U.S. and the people were cooperative with the government. Fake meme countries like Iraq and Afghanistan had none of that.

Japan looted over 100 billion American dollars in terms of art, gold and other rare resources from east Asia, almost none of which has been returned. The USA turned a blind eye to this and allowed them to use the money to jump start the economy after the war.
