As someone who does scanning the whole LWND and the like discussion leaves me conflicted. I understand both parties in the problem, and I have to admit that it frustrates me to see something getting uploaded in potato quality when I've just used money to purchase and express ship the said doujinshi.

Now you might say why don't you just upload your scan then and have the old one replaced. This is something that I sometimes actually do but I'm usually busy because of my irl job and endless scanning queue, so I just end up placing the doujinshi on a shelf in my living room and then forget about it.

Just debound my first book, holy fuck is it actually an annoying amount of work. Mainly because my iron is tilted so I can't just lean it against the iron and the book was bound in the worst fucking possible way (some pages had text glued to the next page so you couldn't see/read it unless you debound it). At least I know what to do now for my next book. Different World Girl will come tomorrow or Monday since I actually know how to properly iron debind now (thanks to /a/ and this trial run). 1.5 is fully scanned because it was stable bound but I'd rather release it after I scan #1 in the series. I debound this book first because it's available online and there were unreadable pages because of how shit it was bound.

Also, does anyone know if it's safe to use an ADF scanner when there's a small amount of adhesive on the pages? Rather not fuck up my new scanner and manually scan each page if it's going to ruin the feed or something.

Not legal. You're distributing content you have no rights to. One report from someone should be enough to get the account frozen. Some translators have managed a Patreon without getting instantly shut down but that's mostly due to them being barely known.

Artists wouldn't let their works be freely distributed would they? I'd have to get into contact with the artist, get licensing and without a doubt they'd want to see some profits, no? At the very least they'd want a big cut of whatever I earn because the majority of the work is still theirs. More likely though I'd have to set up a store or something and this is all a headache I'm probably not willing to get into as it'd require far more work than a lonely NEET can do on his computer. Only the highest quality scan is tolerated on sadpanda, and worse ones get expunged.

The debate is about if shitty scans are better than no scans.
Some people say yes, because they either don't care about quality, or they'd rather read something in low quality than not at all.
Other people say no, because things with existing scans, shitty or not, are less likely to be scanned by another group. So a doujin you like getting a shitty scan means a good scanner is more likely to skip it and work on an unscanned doujin.

Personally, I think the focus should be on getting scanners/translators to redo things that have been done poorly. Rather than skipping anything with any scan/translation at all. That way people who don't care can get their scans quickly, and people with standards will get a good scan eventually.
Unfortunately, putting out a superior version of something doesn't give as much e-penis as putting out something with no other versions. Look at the popularity of HorribleSubs compared to other anime sub groups.
