How do you guys find the motivation to sort your through your collection? I've got like terabytes of archived shit that I just download from torrents and ddls and they just sit there. I'm pretty sure I have shit loads of duplicates and I'm not sure where to begin.

I could write a guide, but I don't think it'd be universal, and certainly not the "best" way to do so.
Maybe guides already exist somewhere.
My basic advice is get the pro/paid version of Duplicate cleaner http://www.digitalvolcano.co.uk/dcdownloads.html and run it several times.
1. The first time only detect duplicate folders, that is folders which entirely identical content.
2. Second time detect duplicate folder names.
3. Third time detect 100% identical content to find more folders that are similar.
4. Lower it from 100% to say 90% or so.
5. If needed, lower it increasingly more, though there will be a decreasing rate of return as it starts to match up unrelated images.

A lot of this can be automated or otherwise made far simpler than manually doing so.

As for the actual organization, I'd suggest using Happypanda or Pandaviewer, People really vary in how they prefer their directory structure so I won't say anything about that at this time.

Err, I assumed you meant HappyPanda. I misread. PandaViewer doesn't have nearly as many metadata problems as HappyPanda.

To update HappyPanda, just install over the current installation. PandaViewer stores all its data is a separate directory, so it doesn't matter if you install over or delete the previous install.

I've got 200GB+ of unsorted images (down from 250GB after I deleted exact duplicate files). Also a very large amount of stuff I've ripped from Pixiv.

Are there any programs that will find duplicates but only delete from certain folders?
I want to sort through the 200GB folder but only delete images that already exist in the Pixiv folder, keeping the Pixiv folder untouched. All the ones I've tried so far just pick at random, leaving 'holes' all over the place.

Here's the thing with devs: we need some application, so we write one.
"Hey this is useful", so we share it. If we don't use it, we don't update it.
It's not about whether other people want it, it just so happens that we've shared our work with you.
In return, you guys offer feature requests and usability improvement ideas. These are often pretty great.

We will often write tools for ourselves that never get shared. That's not to say that we're sitting on this goldmine of top secret applications, but a lot of the time I write a small hacked together script to get something done. As far as I'm concerned the problem has been solved, but to 99% of end users it's unusable.
Publishing work requires a level of bug testing and interface polish that just isn't necessary for personal projects, so to push something to public there's a lot of extra work involved.

If a dev goes MIA and his application stops working, well that happens all the time, it's not complaint worthy is it?

Long story short, since it didn't involve any actual logins, cookies, downloader programs, or so forth, it could be convenient if I was working off of computers that weren't mine and couldn't really be tweaked with. While I don't have that issue that much anymore, I like to keep my options open, and losing something like that upsets me. Also, the technical part of my mind is in problem-solving mode, and I like a good technical mystery sometimes.

If something isn't worth downloading, unzipping, renaming, organising etc. then it's not worth downloading in the first place. The point of downloading stuff to your computer is to make it easier to find than online, if you're just throwing 500 doujins in one folder none of which have been renamed or organised in any way, you're defeating the point of downloading the doujins in the first place.

When searching for file-hosting links for something that you want to download (e.g. from DLsite), you'll often find that these links are either slow for free users or premium-only.

You could buy a subscription, but there are so many file hosters these days that it's practically a useless one-off purchase. At that point, you may as well just buckle down and pay for what you were originally trying to download.

There are a few ways to get around this:
1) Find premium account details for the file hoster online.
2) Find a JDownloader accounts file (org.jdownloader.settings.AccountSettings.accounts.ejs) with the premium account details.
3) Use a premium link generator.
4) Use a Cbox.

The first one is hard, because these get snatched up quickly, and their bandwidth gets used up or their accounts invalidated from too many IPs.

The second one is slightly better, because fewer people know how to use JDownloader so accounts shared through this method don't get invalidated as fast. Also the file itself is somewhat scrambled (so it's harder to extract premium account details). They can still be extracted though, and it's annoying to have to check what accounts are in the file.

Premium link generators sound great in concept. A single site buys many premium accounts, and creates an interface through which users submit links. The site then downloads these links to its own server, and gives a link to its own copy back to the user. Usually this link has a few rounds of advertising bullshit you have to click through, but there are Greasemonkey/Tampermonkey scripts that automatically forward you through these.

The problem here is that there's such a small barrier to entry that everyone inevitably tries to use them, and the large amount of traffic through the site flags the premium accounts it uses for invalidation.

Cbox is basically a premium link generator in the form of a chat application. You get this chat-like interface, with a registration and login. You register an account, which just requires user ID/password + captcha, and then login. You then post the link as a message. Usually an auto-checker will check your link to make sure it exists. Then a bot replies to you in the chat interface, with a link like the premium link generator would. Again, usually the link is cascaded with ads.

It's basically a premium link generator with a few extra steps to weed out retards and bots. It's not as if premium link generators can't also do this, but most don't bother to implement a login system. The ones that do still work surprisingly well.

The annoying step is finding a cbox that supports your file host. There are some catalogs, like

Whenever I look for something on gelbooru, I have two problems with loading the pages:

1. The page index at the bottom of the results page doesn't show up after I reload the page 2 times.
I'm talking about those small boxes with the page numbers, 1 2 3 4 5 etc...

2. When I click on an image in the results page to go to that image's page, the image simply won't load either.


This happens in both Firefox and Google Chrome.
I just tested danbooru, its works fine there for some reason.

Any ideas on how to fix it?

I've got 200 gigs and I finally need a more elegant solution than just super long titles. Has anyone have a hiccup that 'caused them to lose files whilst using hydrus? Hydrus is a pretty solid program so if you fuck up something(which is very hard to do) it'll mostly be your fault. I believe you can remove your images straight from Hydrus(not from the folder but the program itself) and it will bring back even the original file name(I think). Best tip when using Hydrus is to just play around with it for a few days with a few images at a time and tweaking each settings until you get a better understanding.

No, that would require having all of the favorites in a database and it would need to be constantly updated. At that point, may as well just look at the database itself.

I'm thinking about getting hydrus, but I can't really spare the extra space to copy all my pics. Does it save them in a readily available folder? Or Are the copies it makes just accessible through hydrus?

What's the best way to represent text bubble onomatopoeia? I don't exactly like the stars, but it looks like dialogue without them.

is there any way to fix this metadata problem in Happypanda?
it keeps getting me the same list to choose from with every entry in the database and manually adding the links is a pain in the ass.

Is this kind of margin usage acceptable? Trying to typeset this and I'm not left with many other options, this artist has a tendency to draw a lot of text/dialogue right over his art, which I suspect is why most of it hasn't really been translated before. Opinions?

Thanks. If there aren't any objections or taboos, I think I'll stick with what I have. I can edit things alright, but I'm by no means an artist, so I don't trust my ability to redraw. And I'd prefer not to cover up any more of his art than is absolutely necessary. I'll look through the SL threads.

To be frank, it looks like shit and you're going to get shit on if you plan on releasing it like that. No one wants to turn their head 90 degrees to read something. Pic related is a much better option if you can't do redraws.

It also reads really stiff. I don't know if it's your Japanese or English that's the problem, but it comes off as a machine translation right now. Maybe you can't do much about it, but I would advice you'd at least try to clean up the dialog.

Sorry if I come off as an asshole, but rather I point this out now than you having 10 people yelling at you later. I can guarantee you that most of the feedback will be negative if you put it out like that.

Learn how to use the stamp tool. For simple redrawing like this you can get pretty far with just the stamp tool.

I could go with those boxes, I suppose. Although there are other instances of the text over art where they might not fit as well. I'll have to see which one looks better. I'm not terribly concerned about feedback because I'm doing it more for myself than anyone else.

Also, I don't speak japanese, at least not at any respectable level. I had a friend translate them and send me the script, which I agree is somewhat clinical. Near as I can tell there's not all that much to be done with the dialogue, as he doesn't really write all that much, but maybe I can embellish on it a bit.

I found the first volume of Sakurai Dai Energy that I apparently bought a while ago.
