Also I see a lot of misinformation going around about dlsites cut. The cut listed on the english speaking site is worse than what Japanese creators get, probably because the english speaking part of dlsite is outsourced to some company in california.
Here is the actual cut for Liru:
1944yen ($18) total cost: 144yen goes to JP government (8% sales tax), 500 yen goes to dlsite and 1300yen to seismic


The doujinshi industry makes over $700 million per year and growing.
That industry doesn't need english speakers money to survive.
We don't need to make up some story about how /h/ has to come together to send money to seismic on patreon or paypal or else he starves.
But what buying it will do is decide whether Seismic, and other doujinshi creators watching, thinks paying $700 for subtitles was a worthwhile investment or not.
If you want say "hey, there is a paying english speaking market interested in this stuff here!" then go ahead and buy it.
but if you're happy with the status quo then go ahead and pirate it, it has literally zero impact on the Japanese industry because you were never the target audience to begin with, it would just be business as usual.

No, it works straight out of the box. Just run it, go into options and select English, and you can say goodbye to moonrunes.
If anything, Seismic should have put the "English" option written in english in the japanese menu, not in kanji (英語). This way people who can't moon can reach it easily. In the same way the "Japanese" option should be written in kanji in the english menu. Same thing for the popup help on those same options.

When you look at the middlemen you should look at "what do they invest in the industry"

Patreon takes a smaller cut than dlsite/dmm/digiket etc sure, but what does patreon offer in return?
They may put you on their extremely limited "featured" section and that's it.

Patreon isn't a site you go to to reach an audience or to sell a product, you go to patreon when you already have an established fanbase from youtube, twitter etc that you want to squeeze some extra money out of.

Doujinshi creators making their own digital stores, doing all advertising themselves would get 100% of each sale but at a much higher cost, much higher risk and probably lower total sales.
Their specialty is drawing, gaming making, animation etc, and they should stick to that.
When you run a small business you specialize and focus on where you have a competitive advantage and outsource the rest.

What doujinshi creators who are interested in the english speaking market needs is a formal and predictable way to reach english speakers.
They don't need stupid-ass adhoc solutions "I'll just pirate your stuff and send you bitcoins ok?"
As far as I can tell english dlsite seems like the best candidate at the moment.
It's a platform they're already familiar with and it offers a formal way to get their stuff translated (if you think translation quality sucks then quit fan translating stuff behind creators backs and instead offer your service to them at a competitive price).
