1. Zip up what you want to back up. (I use .tar on Linux)
2. Encrypt the archive with a passphrase. (I use gpg)
3. Copy the encrypted archive everywhere you can. (I copy to my second HDD, phone, laptop, flashdrive, etc)
4. Test out recovering from your backup by decrypting the archive and unzipping it.

I wrote a script that makes a backup with this method.
