Alpha Centauri is a treasure trove, both for creepy video and audio. I don't know if the game's atmosphere gets across well, but it's the most atmospheric 4x i have ever played. Give it a shot if you want (it's interface hasn't aged well, but experiencing what the developers made there is so worth it).
