if I'm offered a job with room for growth should I settle for a low starting salary? I just finished school and ideally would like to start at the 35k-40k area and work my way up. maybe in time become an art director after gaining more years of experience.
what was your starting pay for your first ever full time graphic design related position? I'm in NY btw.

You can either work for someone and start low, or work for yourself and start low.
The choice is yours.

majority of the advertisements ive seen for positions at least in the NYC area stated the salary range was starting at 35k. the ones that were 60k + were for ones with multiple years of experience.

>working minimum wage after finishing schooling
jesus christ
search glassdoor for your area's wages, compare highly rated companies to lower rated and read the reviews about whether or not the wages are a scam

I was being sarcastic when I asked 10 bucks an hour. obviously I wouldn't do minimum wage.
and yeah, I do use glassdoor. great website and its usually fairly accurate in my experience. I ended up taking a position for $16/hour but at least its full time so I'll make more than my job now.
