By scrapping this idea entirely, and conceptualizing something that can function in one color and inverted.

Then doing a series of thumbnails that capture the concepts you have considered over a series of times.
Then you can pick a few strong ones, make them vector, oh wait, you are just a Photoshop kiddie and I've wasted my time.

Nice, start with the previous, maybe read some articles, play around a bunch, make thumbnails.

I guess my recommendation would be to design.
